More Health and Safety Nonsense Busted!
As a provider of Health and Safety training and consultancy, it's depressing to see so many people use the term as a way of simply being lazy. It's rolled out as an excuse when really, people are just trying to avoid some work.
Here are some great examples where the HSE have taken some HSE complaints and explained how they're simply nonsense.
Case 346 - Café refused to serve customer in outside dining area

Issue A waitress refused to serve the enquirer who was sitting in the outside area of the café because it was raining. The enquirer wrote and complained to customer services who advised that she was...
The real problem here is that the staff simply didn't want to serve someone in the rain!
Case 347 - Hotel chain could not provide a lower mattress for a disabled customer

Issue Enquirer is disabled and in a wheelchair. She had requested and been provided with a lower mattress in the same hotel (which is part of a hotel group) twice before, however, on a third...
This one beggars belief! Why on earth would it be dangerous to give someone a lower mattress? Maybe the real reason was that it was a bit too awkward to carry out this simple request?
Case 348 - Children not allowed to have balloons

Issue Enquirer was told that they could not give out air-filled balloons to children after a library book event due to unspecified health and safety reasons. Instead they had to burst them and throw them...
Someone just wanted to spoil kids' fun.
