More health and safety myth busting!

A bit of fun, this one. I was searching the HSE website and I found this little gem : http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/oct09.htm

mortar boards So a quick search to find out where this came from and I found an article on the Daily Mail website from some time back:

It is a decades-old tradition that provides a cherished photograph for proud parents.

But now students at one university have been banned from throwing their mortar boards in the air at graduation ceremonies because of health and safety fears.

Bosses at Anglia Ruskin University say a student could be seriously injured by the corner of one of the square caps.

Obviously, this is nonsense! It seems some over sensitive people at the university are invoking the spectre of "Health and Safety" incorrectly, there are no such rules!

Still, makes for a good story, eh?
