How can I buy cheap hydraulic lifting equipment?

It’s a question that’s asked by many people because, let’s face it, hydraulic equipment can be very expensive. But there are very good reasons why you shouldn’t buy cheap, and also why you should only buy from a reputable dealer.

Regulations

First of all, there is a lot of regulation around the operations and maintenance of lifting equipment, and for good reason. You tend to use this equipment to lift very heavy objects and if it fails, there is a likely hood of danger. Health and Safety has a lot to do with the safe operation of this equipment.

Typically, some sectors have specific regulations. For example, the rail sector deals with specialised equipment which is often made for a particular job. They will have their own regulations regarding the safe purchase, maintenance and use of any new equipment.

So, when buying cheap, you need to make sure that you’re adhering to those strict regulations. Failure to do so could lead to prosecution by the HSE.

Maintenance

You can sometimes save money by buying second hand, but you must make sure it is inspected before use to ensure it is in full and safe working condition. Your own health and safety inspector will want to give it a full inspection.

You’ll need to check that the hydraulic oil is of the correct type. Also, has it been changed? Now in many instances when buying machinery, changing the oil is a good thing, but there is often no need to change the oil in hydraulic equipment. Check this out first.

Also, check the filters to make sure they’re not clogged.

Just buy new!

Very often manufacturers will have offers available, for example our offer on Enerpac’s  PowerBox which is 20% off from September to November.
